St. Luke's Hospital- Director, Marketing and Communications

Description:

The Director, Marketing and Communications oversees the branding and positioning of the Hospital, advertising and marketing campaigns; internal and external communications; media relations; Web site; development and execution of marketing and communications strategies for Hospital and various business units. Reports to Vice President Professional and Administrative Services.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND STANDARDS:

 

1. Drive the planning, growth and operational management of Marketing, Communications
and Public Relations.

2. Work with leadership to achieve organizational strategic goals, foster values and support
the mission of the Hospital.

3. Plan, develop and assist in implementation of service line marketing and business plans that
will result in profitable new volumes for Hospital, linking the organizational culture and mission,
the community and physician constituents.

4. Provide leadership in developing communications plans for the Marketing and Communications function.

5. Demonstrate a broad knowledge and thorough understanding of the market trends and forces influencing
the healthcare industry.

6. Plan, develop and execute effective communication strategies and vehicles for Hospital.

7. Ensure senior leadership remains informed of communications and reputation issues and activities.

8. Assist senior leadership in development and implementation of correspondence, reports, speeches
and presentations. Provide organization-wide training to respond to public relations issues thereby
creating confidence within the leadership to be able to respond quickly and appropriately to public
relations issues.

9. Ensure success and effectiveness of media relations program. Evaluate results of media activities.

10. Ensure consistency and uniformity in branding standards and graphic identity.

11. Continue to build the brand image and awareness of Hospital and affiliated services on a local
and regional level.

12. Plan, develop, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of internal communications.

13. Direct the work of public relations that support Hospital on a broad range of communications and
reputation issues. Continue to maintain the strong relationship the organization enjoys with the local media.

14. Communicate organizational strategies, objectives and issues to managers and team members within
the Graphics and Marketing and Communications departments.

15. Evaluate operational and management issues in the department and take timely and effective actions
to resolve them.

16. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, accreditation, professional and regulatory standards
and licensure requirements.

17. Work with the leadership team to implement new program opportunities to address community needs.

18. Supervise Manager of Graphics and all Marketing and Communications staff; serve as Hospital liaison
for contracts.

Required Skills:

1. A strong background and experience with a wide range of market research methodologies and
instruments to include surveys, studies, focus groups, and database management for tracking market
demographics and customer patterns.

2. Significant poise and interpersonal skills, balanced with solid analytical skills and creativity;
high credibility within the healthcare community and when viewed from within and outside the Hospital.

3. A well-defined style that demonstrates a team orientation, confidence, business savvy, maturity and diplomacy.

4. Strong leadership qualities with excellent presentation, verbal and written communications skills.
Well-versed at making presentations to small, as well as large, groups.

5. Flexibility, creativity and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.

6. Ability to develop and sustain positive, long-term, trust-based relationships with internal and external
customers at all levels.

7. Passion about the work he/she does, couple with strong work ethic.

8. Experience working within a management team where mutual respect is a key ingredient to success.

9. Solid experience with a variety of advertising and promotional mediums.

10. Performs special projects or additional duties, as assigned.

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in Marketing required.  Master's degree in Marketing preferred. Masters Degree in Business or Health Administration considered Public Administration, along with a broad understanding of the health care environment and internal hospital operations.

Required Experience:

Minimum seven to ten years of hands-on experience in management of marketing, communications or public relations with a successful track record of communicating complex issues to a variety of audiences. Ability to collaborate effectively with all levels.
